About Antihistamine Tablets

Antihistamine also known as histamine antagonist is a type of drug that blocks histamines from attaching to histamine receptors. Antihistamines are used to treat allergenic symptoms such as stopped, runny, sneezing, and itchy noses. Antihistamines are also used to treat such conditions as insect bites and stings. They also have the ability to halt gastric acid production which allows them to treat other conditions such as acid reflux and stomach ulcers. Many antihistamines are available without prescription and can be purchased over the counter. They come in many different forms including, tablets, chewable tablets, nasal sprays, capsule, and liquid forms. Antihistamine tablets are one of the most commonly used forms of the antihistamines.

Use of Antihistamine Tablets

How many tablets a day a person takes would depend upon the individual antihistamine's characteristics and recommended dosage, which is why it is important to consult a doctor before use of this drug. Drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision, urine retention, and sometimes lack of focus are the most common side effects involved with taking antihistamines. The Antihistamine tablets come in various shapes and sizes but all are relatively small, oval, or round with some type of color associated with them. Some of these tablets are also chewable which makes easier use for smaller children or elderly, more mature persons. The proper way to take chewable antihistamine tablets is to chew thoroughly and just swallow.

Usage of Antihistamine Tablets

It is not recommended that one takes antihistamines with other drugs such as alcohol, sedatives, tranquilizers, or any other drug that may cause drowsiness. Most antihistamines can be taken before or after a meal with water or any other kind of liquid that does not contain alcohol. To be safe and cautious, one should consult their doctor on interactions with other drugs and foods before use. In most cases, if one does not exceed the recommended dosage and gets advice from their doctor, they will be safe from major issues and problems that are more likely to occur during abuse or incorrect mixtures of this drug with other drugs.

Antihistamine Abuse

Growing trends with antihistamines can be seen mainly in prescriptions and abuse by teens and young adults. Prescriptions for antihistamines continue to grow due to erratic weather conditions and changes that offset the human body leading to allergic reactions. In the case of drug abuse, many teens try to use these types of drugs in hopes to attain a "high" or euphoric type feeling instead of taking the medication for what it was initially meant for. Over taking these drugs can be very harmful to the body, but in most cases this just leads to the side effects being exaggerated. Most over-the-counter antihistamines have a large safety net when it comes to taking too many of these drugs at a given time.

Antihistamine Tablets to Help with Allergies

When allergy season comes around, most people look to antihistamines to alleviate their suffering. The trend is growing and people everywhere are using antihistamines to fight off their allergies and return their bodies to their normal states.
